David Engels analyzes the cultural and civilizational framework of Europe in a post-Covid world

David Engels grew up in Belgium’s German-speaking eastern borderlands (Ostbelgien), a stone’s throw away from both Aachen (Germany), millenary site of Holy Roman Emperors and German Kings, and Maastricht (Netherlands), 30-year capital of European supranationalism. After a distinguished scholarly career dedicated to the classics and the civilizationalist lessons from Ancient History—his exegesis of Oswald Spengler is forthcoming in German—, he became a senior analyst at the Instytut Zachodni in Poznán. There, he has convened a pan-European working group of scholars who fret about the pulling of the cultural rug from underneath the European project of political integration. Renovatio Europae, the book-form product of their disquisition, has since been published in every EU language. Made starker along his journeys across the European landscape, David discusses here with Jorge González-Gallarza the cultural and civilizational junctures that Europe faces in the post-Covid world. In Spanish, David Engels is also the author of the book The Last Westerner, published by La Tribuna del País Vasco Ediciones.
